Mark Peeples, of Bridgeport, was stopped around 1 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 29, when officers were conducting targeted patrol in the area of Success Avenue, due to street robberies as well as narcotics sales and a recent homicide, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti.
When officers approached Peeples' vehicle, who was stopped for darkly tinted windows and a canceled registration, they immediately detected an odor of marijuana, Eannotti said.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located a stolen 9mm firearm loaded with six rounds of ammunition under the driver's seat. They also found a box containing approximately 100 additional rounds of ammunition, he added.
Peeples, a convicted felon for previous weapons-related crimes, was charged with possession of under a half-ounce of marijuana, illegal transfer of a weapon, carrying a weapon without a permit, criminal possession of ammunition, criminal possession of a weapon, operating with a suspended registration and failure to carry insurance.
He is being held on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 23.
